Job Description: Packing Helper
Position Overview:
A packing helper plays a vital role in ensuring efficient and organized packing operations in warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, and other industrial settings. They assist in preparing goods and products for shipment, handling packaging materials, and maintaining a clean and orderly packing area.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Packaging:
Assist in packing goods and products into appropriate containers, boxes, or packaging materials according to specified instructions, standards, or packaging guidelines.
Wrap, cushion, and secure items using packaging materials such as bubble wrap, foam, packing peanuts, and shrink wrap to prevent damage during transportation.
Labeling and Marking:
Affix labels, stickers, or tags to packaged items, indicating product information, shipping details, and handling instructions.
Ensure accuracy and legibility of labels, and verify that packages are correctly marked and identified for proper sorting and distribution.
Quality Inspection:
Inspect packaged items for defects, damages, or discrepancies, and report any issues to supervisors or quality control personnel.
Ensure that packaging materials, such as boxes, tape, and pallets, meet quality standards and are free from defects or contamination.
Inventory Management:
Assist in counting, sorting, and organizing inventory items in preparation for packing and shipment.
Maintain accurate records of packed items, quantities, and locations, and update inventory management systems or databases as required.
Material Handling:
Handle and move packages, cartons, and pallets using manual or powered equipment such as hand trucks, pallet jacks, and forklifts.
Load and unload shipments from trucks or containers, and stack or arrange items in storage areas or on shipping docks.
Safety and Compliance:
Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries in the workplace, including proper lifting techniques, use of personal protective equipment and safe operation of equipment.
Follow regulatory requirements and company policies regarding hazardous materials, proper handling, storage, and disposal of packaging materials.
Team Collaboration:
Work cooperatively with packing supervisors, warehouse staff, and logistics personnel to coordinate packing activities and meet production or shipping deadlines.
Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth workflow, address issues, and resolve any packing-related problems or concerns.
Housekeeping and Maintenance:
Maintain cleanliness and organization in the packing area, including removing debris, sweeping floors, and disposing of packing waste properly.
Report any maintenance or repair needs for packing equipment, tools, or facilities to maintenance personnel or supervisors.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in packing, warehouse, or logistics operations preferred.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and efficiently.
Basic math skills for counting, sorting, and recording inventory items.
Physical stamina and ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects or packages.
Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed.
